Students from across the nation delivered solutions to the real-world national security challenges of more than 65 DoD mission partners last week during their final presentations for the summer X-Force Fellowship program. Over the past 10 weeks, fellows worked on innovations like a prototype drone attachment enabling the semi-autonomous assessment of wounded warfighters’ neurological states; an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered rust detection system that would enable more rapid, accurate rust remediation; a logistical model to improve sustainment and the distribution of resources; and more.

HII's Mission Technologies was recently awarded a five-year, $1.4 billion task order through the Joint Network Engineering and Emerging Operations (J-NEEO) contract vehicle. J-NEEO is one of eight contracts that NSIN manages to help growing companies survive the “Valley of Death,” a precarious time where a vendor transitions a prototype or commercially available product to a DoD contract.

NSIN is a program office in the U.S. Department of Defense, nested within the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU). We are set up to collaborate with a wide variety of innovators to include universities, researchers, students, entrepreneurs and start-ups. We create opportunities for collaboration across communities and connect those that might not traditionally work in national security. Together, we help drive national security innovation and develop technologies that directly support the individuals responsible for protecting our country. |
