Applications are now open for five Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) contract opportunities with the Army, including:
Tech: solve one or more of the following autonomous mobility sensing challenges: off-road sensing, adverse-weather sensing, long-range sensing, and reduction-in-processing-burden sensing.
Problem-solving for the Army: improve autonomous ground mobility to classify vegetation, to maneuver holes, and to operate in situations such as different lighting conditions, fog/rain/dust/snow. In addition, improve autonomous tech to quickly process images with better long-range resolution.
Awards: up to $1.7 million.
Deadline: apply by June 14.
Tech: develop bio-based materials that can feasibly produce equipment such as seat belts, seat materials, and camouflage covers, while innovating less-visible camo materials.
Problem-solving for the Army: bio-based material integration, reduced cost, and less reliance on foreign supply chains to improve the safety and the durability of sustainable Army materials.
Awards: up to $250,000.
Deadline: apply by June 14.
Tech: power management technology for hybrid- and electric-propulsion aircraft resulting in significant fuel savings.
Problem-solving for the Army: efficient and lightweight aircraft that reduces fuel burn while providing increased electrical power capabilities.
Awards: up to $250,000.
Deadline: apply by June 28.
Tech: design, develop, and evaluate domestic hardwood replacement prototypes.
Problem-solving for the Army: cost savings on vehicle replacements and damage, and vehicle readiness will increase by avoiding future potential non-mission-capable dead-line situations.
Awards: up to $250,000.
Deadline: apply by June 28.
Tech: a visual system paired with artificial intelligence (AI) or machine learning (ML) that can be inserted into energetic manufacturing without adding significant delay to operations.
Problem-solving for the Army: utilize AI/ML in conjunction with an in-line process control system to identify defects in energetic fills of munitions including, but not limited to cracks, voids, gaps, foreign material, and chemical agent leakage.
Awards: up to $250,000.
Deadline: apply by June 28.
