NSIN alumni can apply for the next iteration of NSIN Vector. Over eight weeks, Vector teaches dual-use venture creation business fundamentals to teams and concludes with a  $25,000 prize pitch competition. Applications are open now until Oct. 31.

SEPT. 14, 2021


EVENT: The top six teams from the NSIN Defense Innovation Accelerator (DIA) 2021 cohort will pitch their projects to investors, government partners, and fellow entrepreneurs for an opportunity to commercialize their technology. Projects include X-ray computed tomography (CT), mercury-free handheld ultraviolet (UV) disinfection, and data pre-processing with natural language. Join us live at noon EDT on Sept. 14.

MEDIA: Omaha Public Radio’s Mike Hogan, host of “All Things Considered” and “Live & Local,” discussed the students and startups behind Omaha’s national security capabilities with Wade Watts, NSIN university program director at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

EVENT: The virtual NSIN Propel Demo Day will showcase dual-use technologies such as sensors, 5G, and automation, created by the 12 companies participating in the inaugural Propel cohort. The event, hosted by our partners at Decisive Point and Newlab, will include demonstrations followed by a Q&A from each of the companies. Join us from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. EDT on Sept. 23.


OCT. 15, 2021


EVENT: Submit your machine learning (ML) solution, using only external photographs, to predict the internal structure of buildings for a chance to win up to $1 million to develop your concept with the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). White papers are due on Oct. 15.

EVENT: Join Code for America on Sept. 18 for this year’s National Day of Civic Hacking to reimagine 911 and evaluate how emergency response systems operate around the country. Code for America’s experts will discuss the data, analysis, and prototyping actions needed to create a truly human-centered 911 emergency response system. Registration closes Sept. 15.

SEPT. 19, 2021


EVENT: Submit your solution to improve the data technology of the Council of Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency (CIGIE) in their open request for information. Companies selected will present at CIGIE’s Industry Day on Oct. 20. Submit your idea by Sept. 19.
 

SEPT. 21 - 24, 2021


EVENT: Watch as the ten finalists use novel approaches to rapidly map, navigate, and search underground environments during time-sensitive combat operations or disaster response scenarios. Finalists will compete for up to $5 million in funding in the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Subterranean (SubT) Challenge Sept. 21-24.

EVENT: Attend Kessel Run Engagement Day to learn more about the software development and acquisition unit for the U.S. Air Force, and discover how Kessel Run’s innovative platform can deliver cloud-based infrastructure and software solutions for your organization. Space is limited, so register today to attend the event at 2 p.m. EDT on Sept. 22.
 

FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES 

Companies that facilitate joint projects and accelerate technology transfers between labs and commercial markets can apply for a five-year Partnership Intermediary Agreement (PIA) with the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) at Kirtland Air Force Base. The program will award a total of $75 million to applicants who can increase the likelihood of successful cooperative activities between AFRL, startups, and academia. Applications are due Sept. 21.
Share your ideas to innovate the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Space Force for a chance to pitch your solution to Department of the Air Force leadership and a panel of industry experts at the 2022 Air Force Association’s Warfare Symposium. Service members will receive education materials to develop their ideas as well as advice from previous Spark Tank participants. Submissions are due Oct. 1.
