The inaugural NSIN Tech Squad cohort developed machine learning, algorithm, and application solutions that improved supply chains, certification training, and communications for Department of Defense (DoD) problem sponsors this summer. Tech Squad is a voluntary service opportunity that connects early-career science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professionals with the DoD.

EVENT: Put your best ideas forward to improve the U.S. Army 1st Cavalry Division. Participants can directly discuss solutions with brigade and division commanders and partner with universities to develop ideas. The deadline for submissions is Aug. 31.

EVENT: Educators interested in teaching students to work with the DoD to address the nation’s emerging security challenges can register now for the Hacking for Defense (H4D) Virtual Educators Course. The four-module course provides an overview of H4D and how to develop a successful program at your university. The live portion of the course starts virtually on Sept. 13.

EVENT: The top six teams from the NSIN Defense Innovation Accelerator (DIA) 2021 cohort will pitch their projects to investors, government partners, and fellow entrepreneurs for an opportunity to commercialize their technology. Projects include X-ray computed tomography (CT), mercury-free handheld ultraviolet (UV) disinfection, and data pre-processing with natural language. Join us live at noon EDT on Sept. 14.

EVENT: The virtual NSIN Propel Demo Day will showcase dual-use technologies such as sensors, 5G, and automation, created by the 12 companies participating in the inaugural Propel cohort. The event, hosted by our partners at Decisive Point and Newlab, will include demonstrations followed by a Q&A from each of the companies. Join us from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. EDT on Sept. 23.

EVENT: Problem solvers with skill sets in metal additive manufacturing (MAM) techniques can win a $1 million contract, awarded in three phases, to develop ultra-high-strength steel (UHSS) alloy solutions. Submit your ideas by Oct. 15 on the NSIN UNUM platform for the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) to review.

EVENT: Veterans who are interested in learning entrepreneurial skills can receive full-tuition scholarships to attend LaunchIt, a 10-week virtual training hosted by the University of Louisville. Applications are due Sept. 6.

Small businesses, with dual-use technology solutions to modernize the U.S. Army, can win up to $45,000 and an opportunity to contract for a SBIR Phase I award of up to $250,000. Submit applications no later than 5 p.m. EDT on Sept. 2.

Submit a written proposal for an Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) design. The winning proposal will receive $50,000 and an opportunity for an Other Transactions (OT) prototype award up to $1 million. Submissions are due by 11:59 p.m. EDT on Sept. 13.
