Twelve startups shared their solutions for improving United States Special Operations Command’s (USSOCOM) digital mission engineering, human-machine interfaces, and unmanned systems at the NSIN Propel Boston Demo Day. The solutions will enable Special Operations Forces (SOF) readiness for integrated deterrence, crisis and conflict. The dual-use ventures pitched to venture capital, commercial startup accelerators, and DoD stakeholders.

Learn about an opportunity to showcase your innovations at the Pacific Operational Science & Technology Field Experimentation (POST FX) event. The event, held by the Defense Innovation OnRamp Hub: Hawaii, in partnership with U.S. Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM), NSIN, DIU, and the University of Hawaii Applied Research Lab, will give innovators an opportunity to showcase their technologies to INDOPACOM, U.S. Army Pacific (USARPAC), Pacific Air Forces (PACAF), U.S. Pacific Fleet (PACFLT), U.S. Space Force, Special Operations Command Pacific (SOCPAC), and U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific (MARFORPAC).

Attend the launches of two new Defense Innovation OnRamp Hubs in Wichita, KS, and Dayton, OH to hear how the Hubs will serve as an open door to the DoD. Companies and entrepreneurs can learn how to enter the National Security Innovation Base, discover how to access government programming and funding, engage in national security events, and solve DoD challenges.

NSIN and DIU showcased program overviews and engaged with commercial and defense mission partners at the annual Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education (I/ITSEC) conference in Orlando, Florida. Cassie Muffley, NSIN Acting Defense Innovation OnRamp Hub Program Director, and Beverly Seay, NSIN Southeast Regional Director, also led a student challenge that exposed middle and high school students to the innovation problem solving process.

Service members with injuries to their hands and upper extremities have new hope for improved outcomes thanks to a simulated M-4 rifle charging handle which may gain broader use in military hospitals. The device was created by an occupational therapy team at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital and refined by Fort Campbell’s EagleWerx Applied Tactical Innovation Center. EagleWerx worked with NSIN and research labs from the Army, Air Force, and Navy, Vanderbilt University, and Middle Tennessee State University to help make the innovation a possibility.

Win part of a $90,000 prize pool in the NSIN and xTech Good Vibrations Challenge with innovative algorithms that could help the Army determine whether vehicles pose a threat using terrestrial ground sensors. The challenge is open to undergraduate and graduate students.

Applications are now open for university students to apply for the 2024 X-Force Fellowship program. Selected fellows will work with military and national security leaders next summer on real-world DoD challenges, participate in professional development opportunities, and build a portfolio using their skills for national security solutions. Innovators with deep terrain shaping obstacle (DTSO) solutions that could enable the U.S. Army to delay, deter, or deny enemy forces from the forward line of troops (FLOT) may submit their solutions to the Army Applications Lab SPARTN program for an opportunity to receive up to $200,000 in Phase I SBIR funding.
